Chocolate Maca Malt Smoothie by Catherine Arnold Nutrition

I often have a post lunch/mid afternoon smoothie to get me through the school run, and this one is a perfect pick-me-up. Maca powder is great for an energy boost, stress and balancing hormones.

Its a Peruvian root vegetable which is dried and then ground up into a powder. Due to its energy giving reputation it’s also known as Peruvian Ginseng, apparently the Inca warriors used it before going into battle! This smoothie is also packed with anti-inflammatory fats from the walnuts and flax oil, and bursting with minerals from the raw cacao and blackstrap molasses. Better to be drunk quietly on your own with no children around to pinch it!

Ingredients:

3 tsp raw cacao

1 tbsp maca powder

1 tsp hemp powder

6 walnuts

1 ¼ cup of almond milk or milk of choice

Half a large frozen banana or a whole small one (add some ice cubes if no frozen bananas)

1 tbsp flax oil

1 tsp blackstrap molasses

2 tbsp ripe avocado

Sesame seeds for decoration

Method:

Add milk to the blender first, followed by all the other ingredients and whizz it up until its completely smooth. Drink immediately or keep in the fridge to drink later.
