Maca smoothie by Catherine Arnold Nutrition

Instead of reaching for coffee in the morning, try introducing maca powder into your diet. Its an ‘adaptogen’ which means its helps the body cope with stress and gives you an energy boost too. It has a slightly malty taste so it goes perfectly with this creamy orange smoothie.

Maca is a root vegetable that grows in Peru and was used in natural medicine by the Incan Civilisation. They believed it increased energy, stamina and also sex drive! In nutritional therapy practice today, its used to balance hormones, so is particularly helpful for stress,  fertility issues and menopause.

Ingredients:

1/2 frozen banana

1 orange, peeled

1 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)

1 tbsp maca powder

1 tbsp almond butter (or tahini if you are avoiding nuts)

Method:

Put ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth. Drink immediately or keep in the fridge but drink on the same day you make it if possible.
