Porridge is a great way to to start the day, and this recipe has added turmeric for its numerous benefits – anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and a powerful antioxidant.

Its recommended that 1.5 tsp per day might be enough to enjoy its benefits.  So if you eat this porridge you are most of the way there with breakfast alone! It’s best taken with fat to aid absorption so i have added some extra coconut oil in here too. This will also give you an energy boost, and, along with the protein powder (hemp or pea protein) should help keep you full all morning!

Ingredients:

1/3 cup glutenfree oats

2 tbsp quinoa flakes (just add more oats if you don’t want to use quinoa flakes)

1 1/4  cup almond milk or milk of choice

1 ripe banana

2 tsp hemp powder/pea protein

1 tsp turmeric

1/2 tsp vanilla extract or paste

1 tsp coconut oil

1-2 tsp pumpkin seeds

1/3 cup frozen or fresh blueberries

Method:

Put the oats and quinoa flakes into a pan along with 1 cup of milk. Bring to a simmer, stirring continuously.

Mash the banana and add to the porridge along with the hemp or pea protein powder. Stir for 5 minutes, adding more milk if it gets too thick.

While the porridge is cooking, put the blueberries in a pan over a low heat and cook gently until soft and jammy, stirring from time to time to help the process.

Once the oats have broken down and the porridge is cooked stir in the coconut oil, turmeric and vanilla, mixing until combined completely.

Then pour  into a bowl and top with the blueberries, pumpkin seeds and any other topping you fancy.
