Nutrients that we eat build the physical structures of our body, they are essential not only for energy, but for growth, repair and maintenance, they become enzymes, hormones, neurotransmitters and more. In fact, every single physiological and biochemical process in the body is governed by nutrition.
Nutritional therapy can be used to help achieve optimum health and wellness, by addressing nutritional imbalances and deficiencies that can affect the normal functioning of the body’s systems. Left for long enough, nutritional deficiencies can lead to disease, as the body is starved of the raw materials it requires to function normally. Unlike conventional medicine, Nutritional Therapy can be used to help prevent illness as well as to help the body regain health once illness has struck. It can work alongside conventional medicine, if necessary, to help support clients back to health.
Nutritional therapists look at the whole person rather than just symptoms in isolation, viewing wellness in terms of the physical, mental and spiritual balance of a person—all of which may contribute to their state of health. Consultations involve taking details of the client’s health history and diet, as well as spending time discussing the functioning of body systems such as digestion, nervous system, respiratory system to understand what is happening in the body. If necessary, tests can probe even further – using either NHS tests or specific nutrition tests available from a private laboratory to pinpoint what might be the underlying cause of illness. By addressing the root causes of the symptoms, we aim to restore balance and health.
I have seen people in my clinic for many illnesses and imbalances including:
- Autoimmune illnesses
- Coeliac disease
- Fertility issues

- Unexplained gut pain
Nutrition and Fertility
Although i see clients with a wide range of health concerns, i am particularly interested in helping people with fertility issues, partly due to my own experiences in this area, but also because there is nothing more rewarding than helping couples who may have given up hope, to have the baby of their dreams.
The nutritional status of both the man and woman can affect their abililty to conceive and all aspects of fertility, including the development of the foetus. We are told that folic acid is important to prevent neural tube defects in babies, but it’s not the only nutrient that affects fertililty health. B vitamins are essential for DNA production, cell proliferation and healthy sperm, as are zinc and selenium, antioxidants vitamin E, vitamin C and beta carotene may have a protective affect on sperm and egg from free radical damage, and amino acids L-Arginine and L-Carnitine are essential for sperm production. Some of the fertility clients that i see have health issues which may, inadvertantly, be affecting their ability to conceive. By addressing these health issues and optimising their health, when they do fall pregnant, they are in the best position to have a healthy pregnancy.
The latest research shows that a mothers nutrition during pregnancy can affect the child’s health as it grows up. So it makes sense to enter pregnancy in a completely nourished state so both baby and mother can flourish during pregnancy and beyond.
I can help prepare your body for conception and pregnancy, and to address nutritional imbalances which may be effecting your health and your ability to conceive. I provide support post-natally, to ensure the mother is nourished and healthy during breastfeeding. I can also help parents navigate through weaning and the move on to solid foods for their children, an area which can feel like an enormous responsibility and stressful when it doesn’t go to plan. Having weaned two children myself, I know first hand how difficult it can be to introduce them to the nutritious diets that their growing bodys require.
In addition to one on one consultations, I also work with companies who are interested in offering a nutritional therapy package to their staff. Stress related disorders and absenteeism cost the UK £3.7bn in 2010 – the equivalent of 13.5m working days and £666 per employee.
A corporate nutrition package, can benefit both you and your employees as happy healthy staff will perform better at work. The package would include workshops, talks and personal consulations tailored to your specifications.
I am available to give one off nutrition talks in the workplace to inspire staff to take charge of their health, through nutrition. I also offer bespoke packages to support productivity and wellbeing within the work place. Please contact me for more information and a quote.
