Gomasio is a Japanese dry condiment you can sprinkle on meals to add flavour. It’s traditionally made from toasted sesame seeds and salt.
Sesame seeds are an amazing source of calcium. I use unhulled sesame seeds (retaining as many nutrients as possible) to make mine. I also add extra seeds for even more goodness. Seeds are a great source of zinc which is important for fertility, immune function and skin health.
I love to sprinkle this onto a big green salad, vegetarian meals, noodles, fish, it goes with anything really!
Ingredients:
17 tbsp unhulled sesame seeds
1 tbsp Himalayan salt (or sea salt if you prefer)
4 tbsp pumpkin seeds
4 tbsp sunflower seeds
Method:
Heat a heavy based saucepan over a low heat and add the salt, stir.
Add the seeds and keep stirring to stop them burning. Make sure you toast them evenly until they release a delicious aroma.
Grind them in a nutribullet or similar blender so you get a powder, although it’s fine and preferable if there are a few lumps in it as it adds to the texture. Keep in a jam jar with a lid on, preferably in the fridge.
